# Credits

> How credits are charged, when they end and how to buy them.

1 credit = 1 finished image (any style, ratio, 2K or 4K); failed jobs are free; prepaid; added within 1 business day of payment.

* Only live keys use credits; test keys are free.
* A live job takes 1 credit when it is accepted. The generation shows `credits_charged: 1`.
* A failed job gets its credit back, and shows `credits_charged: 0`.
* Errors are free. A refused request costs nothing.
* Retries aren't charged again. A retry with the same `Idempotency-Key` and body within 24 hours returns the same generation.
* No credits, no job. When your live credits run out, new jobs get `402 insufficient_credits`.

## Credit lots

Credits come in lots, and each lot has its own end date:

| Plan credits                         | At the end of their plan period. They don't roll over. |
| Pack credits                         | Never                                                  |
| Trial credits                        | 30 days after they are added                           |
| Adjustments, such as service credits | Never, unless we say otherwise                         |

Each job uses a credit from the lot that ends first.

## Your balance

`GET /v1/account` shows your live credits: `credits.available` is what you can use now, and `credits.lots` lists each lot. For test keys, `credits` is `null`. See the [API reference](https://docs.foodshot.ai/reference/get-account).

## Low balance

Your low-balance threshold is by default 20% of your last plan grant.

* When a job takes your live credits below it, we send one [`account.low_balance`](https://docs.foodshot.ai/guides/webhooks#events) webhook.
* `credits.low_balance` is `true` while your credits are below the threshold.

Check `credits.low_balance` before a large batch, so credits don't run out in the middle of a busy day.

## Buying credits

* Credits are prepaid by invoice. Your prices are in your agreement with us.
* For plans, we send the next invoice 7 days before the plan period ends.
* Business days are Monday to Friday, Istanbul time, excluding Turkish public holidays.
